Inserting Graphics into a Document

Graphical images, also called Graphics, including Clip Art, are available from many sources and can be inserted using your word processor. Other sources of graphics are images downloaded or copied from the Internet and images or files created from other software packages. Common examples include charts created using spreadsheet software and images created using graphical presentation software. We will practice inserting clip art and graphical files in the following exercise. In both cases, the basic technique is achieved through the use of the INSERT option of your word processing menu.

  1. Retrieve the document you created in the last exercise, REVISED TEKXAM.

    THE TEKXAM

In addition, they understand a wide range of computer concepts related to networking, hardware and software as well as the key legal and ethical issues associated with the use of this technology.

  3. Move the insertion point to the left of the word 'Tek.Xam' in the first line of the first paragraph.
  4. Open the INSERT menu.
  5. Choose the Picture option.
  6. Choose the Clip Art option.
  7. Choose the diploma object or a similar object.
  8. Press the insert button.
  9. Size the object to an appropriate size. Click the object to select it and then use the size handle in any corner to size the object proportionately.

  11. You may need to format the object you just inserted. Select the clip art object you just inserted and open the Format Picture menu of your word processor.
  12. Choose the Wrapping option. The document above used Tight Right wrapping.
  13. Practice formatting your clip art image until your document resembles the document above.
  14. Save the file with the filename, GRAPHICS TEKXAM.
  15. Close the document.

    16. Next you will create a new file and insert it into the document.

  17. Select the names of the corporations and organization and apply bullets to the list. Bullets are an option on the FORMAT menu. Most word processors have the bullet option as an icon on the Formatting Toolbar. Your document should look like the document below.

  1. Save this file as ENDORSERS.
  2. Close the ENDORSERS file.
  3. Open the GRAPHICS TEKXAM file.
  4. Move the insertion point to the line above your name.
  5. Open the INSERT menu option.
  6. Choose the File option.
  7. Choose the ENDORSERS file.
  8. Your document will now incorporate the contents of the ENDORSERS file and should look like the document below. You would use the same steps to insert a spreadsheet file or other type of file. In many cases you can also insert selected text and graphics using copy-and-paste techniques. To copy, right click and choose "copy." To paste, find the desired location, right click and choose "paste."

  1. You will now need to Print Preview the document.

    2. Print Preview will allow you to see exactly how the document will appear when your printer prints it on paper. Therefore, you will be able to make any needed adjustments before the document is printed.

    Click the Print Preview icon on your Standard menu or open the FILE menu option and choose Print Preview.
  2. Make any necessary corrections or adjustments and then Print your document. Either click the Print icon on the Standard menu or open the FILE menu option and choose Print.
