To create a document that contains text, enter the text by typing on the keyboard. You will see the insertion point move as you type; you can move the insertion point at any time by moving it with the mouse.

HANDS ON EXERCISE

1. Open a new document by clicking to begin with a blank screen.
2. Type the following: THE TEKXAMand press the ENTER key twice.

Notice that by pressing the ENTER key you move the insertion point to a new line.

WORD WRAP is a feature that allows you to type words in a complete paragraph without pressing the ENTER key at the end of each line. When the insertion point reaches the right margin, your word processor will position the insertion point automatically at the beginning of the next line. You only should press the ENTER key when you reach the end of a paragraph.

3. Type the following text and press the ENTER key when you reach the end of the paragraph.

4. Continue typing the remainder of the document.

Press the ENTER key twice.

Tek.Xam credentialed individuals can synthesize and analyze data, draw conclusions, and present those conclusions using a variety of common computer applications. They can create websites and can effectively use the Internet for information gathering and analysis. In addition, they understand a wide range of computer concepts related to networking, hardware and software, as well as the key legal and ethical issues associated with the use of this technology.

Press the ENTER key twice.

Your document should now look like the following example.

5. Spell check your document by clicking the ABC button on the toolbar. You may ignore or change any words selected by your word processor. The red, wavy line under the word TekXam indicates that the word is misspelled or not known to your spelling dictionary. In this case it is unknown. The word TekXam can be added to your dictionary by clicking the "ADD" button.

 

6. Save your document.
